Delhi Capitals Women's Team's Performance in 2023

As mentioned above, Delhi Capitals’ women had a great run in the WPL's inaugural season last year. They dominated the tournament and topped the table. However, they lost the finals to Mumbai Indians. They fell short of 72 runs, thanks to Hayley Matthews, who took three wickets for Mumbai and conceded only five runs.

Such a good performance last year explains why the Delhi Capitals women's squad remains almost the same, with only three players dropped and three new signings.

Prospects of Delhi Capitals Women's Team in 2024

Delhi Capitals women’s squad looks like a solid team on paper. It has a good mix of batters, bowlers, and all-rounders to bring the team home.

The team took on the WPL 2023 winners, Mumbai Indians, in the first match to kickstart WPL's new season. However, Delhi lost what was a very close counter as they fell short by just 2 runs. Although the team had 5 wickets in hand, they ran out of overs.

Delhi Capitals' women quickly rebounded as they defeated UP Warriorz by 9 wickets in the next match. After a good bowling performance in the first inning, the team chased down the target with more than 5 overs remaining.

Currently, Delhi is third on the table behind Mumbai Indians, which has 4 points. However, Delhi has a positive net run rate of +1.222, while Mumbai has a slightly poor net run rate of -0.182.

Now, all eyes are set on Delhi's next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, scheduled for 29 February 2024. Bangalore has played two games so far and won both of them. With 4 points and a net run rate of +1.665, it sits at the top of the table.

Despite the slow start to the season, Delhi Capitals women's team has a perfect opportunity to bounce back. They have momentum from their last win, and defeating a strong time like Bangalore will put them on top of the table and boost their confidence for the rest of the season.
