Huawei Mate Xs Foldable Phone with Leica Quad Cameras To Be Launched

The latest craze in the mobile phone sector is of foldable smartphones that look like standard pocketable handsets but double up as tablets once opened. Though, currently, the market has only seen a few of such models. As a sequel to its revolutionary predecessor Huwaei Mate X, the Chinese telecom organization Huawei announced the global launch of the high-end Mate Xs foldable phone. Sounds exciting? Let us have a look at its unique features.

Design

What sets Mate Xs apart from its predecessor, as well as its competitors, is its durability. Huwaei has redesigned the hinge to be sturdier and operate more smoothly. The Falcon Wing Design makes the phone fold outside, unlike some of the other leading foldable phones that fold inside and open like a book.  It means the screen is always exposed, and so the manufacturers have refurbished the screen to make it more robust. The build is “quad-layer,” with two polyamide layers on top adhered together, followed by the flexible OLED and a softer polymer cushioning layer, and finally, a layer connecting the whole to the main body.

Display

When completely unfolded, the OLED 8:7.1 display measures a giant 8-inch, giving the feel of a regular tablet. The screen offers a resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels. When you fold the phone, you get two screens. The main screen measures 6.6 inches (19.5:9), and the secondary screen is smaller at 6.38 inches. The phone can display three apps simultaneously, making multitasking simple. You can open apps side by side and drag and drop content from one to the other.

Processor and performance

Mate Xs is powered by Huawei’s upgraded Kirin 990G chipset paired with 8GB RAM. This hints at an integrated 5G modem. The onboard 512 GB storage can be expanded up to 256 GB. According to the manufacturers, the device runs on the latest Huawei EMUI 10 interface that is based on the open-source Android 10 OS. Following a trade ban by the US, this Huawei device is devoid of Google Play services like Maps and Gmail.  It provides Huawei’s own suite of apps; it has an AppGallery which is a revamped app store from Huawei.

Camera

In the optics section, Mate Xs sports a Leica quad camera with a 40MP principal shooter, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a Time-of-flight (TOF) camera. The same camera acts as the front selfie snapper when you turn the phone around.

Battery and other features

Mate Xs comes with a 4500mAh battery and 55W fast charging technology. A side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a refurbished cooling sensor to enhance the performance are also included.
