Cent to Ground

What is Cent?

Cent, a traditional unit of land measurement, is efficient when it comes to measuring small agricultural plots and residential properties. The term 'Cent' is derived from the word 'centum', meaning hundred. This unit, equal to 1/100th of an acre, provides an intuitive and practical way to divide and allocate smaller land holdings.

In India, cent usage for land area measurement is more prominent in the South India states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu. However, metric units are predominantly used in real-estate deals in other parts of India. In metric units, 1 cent is equal to 40.47 square meters.

What is Ground?

The ground, another land measurement unit prevalent in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, is one of the oldest measurement units. Despite metrification in the mid-20th century, this measurement unit continues to be used in real estate transactions in Tamil Nadu.

One ground is equivalent to 2400 square feet or 203 square meters. Its use is mainly in measuring urban and residential properties.
