An acre is a unit used to measure large pieces of land. Traditionally, acre was only used in Britain, but later on, its use spread to other countries in Europe, North America, and South Asia. In India, agricultural land is sometimes measured in acres.
It is mostly expressed as 1 furlong in length and 1 chain in breadth or 660 feet by 66 feet. We can visualise it as an area covered by 16 tennis courts. One acre is also equivalent to 43,560 square feet or 4,840 square yards.
Ground is a land measurement unit popularly used in southern states of India. It is one of the oldest measuring units in India. The size of one-half ground was traditionally considered a standard for constructing a small house.
The unit is mostly associated with real estate transactions in rural parts of India and is approximately equal to 2400 square feet. This value may differ for different states. For example, in Kerala, 1 ground is 222.967 square meters, and in Maharashtra, it is equal to 203 square meters.
