Akhil Awasthi

Managing Partner, Tata Capital Growth Fund

Since joining Tata Capital in 2009, Akhil has raised US$ 240 million from International as well as Indian LPs with a final close in November 2011. Akhil is actively involved in portfolio management through presence on Board and other committees. He is experienced across the financial services sector - private equity, asset management and corporate banking.

Akhil was one of the founding members of Barings India Private Equity and was involved in all stages of the private equity lifecycle - creating an investment proposition, fund raising, investment and successful divestment. Akhil was also a founding member of India's first private sector mutual fund ITI Pioneer AMC (now Franklin Templeton) where he was responsible for pharmaceutical, software and automobile sectors. Prior to entering the investment business, Akhil worked in corporate banking with ANZ Grindlays Bank.

Akhil holds a BE from Jiwaji University and an MBA from University of Delhi. He completed the prestigious Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2009.

Akhil is an elected member of the Executive Committee of Indian Private Equity & Venture Capital Association and a member of Indian Management Association.


Pramod Ahuja

Partner, Tata Capital Growth Fund

Pramod is a founding Partner of the Tata Capital Growth Fund, which has raised US$ 240 million since inception. Pramod joined Tata Capital in April 2008 and since then has evaluated, sourced and consummated a variety of investments. He is experienced across private equity, public equity and investment banking in India and the United Kingdom.

Pramod was a Director at Deutsche Bank, Mumbai in their Principal Investments division before joining Tata Capital where he was involved in three transactions in the Industrials, Hospitality and Manufacturing space deploying over $200 million.

Prior to Deutsche Bank, Pramod spent close to two years at SVG Capital, London in the Chief Executive's office focusing on business development. At SVG he established an Indian strategy and worked on various structured products. Prior to SVG, Pramod was at Argent Fund Management, UK, investing in the Healthcare, Retail and Financial services sector in the UK and the US. Before Argent, Pramod worked in the Project Finance advisory business of J. Henry Schroder & Company, UK with a special emphasis on the power sector.

Pramod started his career with IL&FS, Mumbai in 1995 as a manager in the US$ 100 million AIG Indian Sectoral Equity Fund.

He holds an MBA from Clark University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University and is an active member of Mumbai Angels, the British Business Group and the Indo-Canadian Business Chamber.


Sanjay Chaudhary

Partner, Tata Capital Growth Fund

Sanjay joined Tata Capital Private Equity in August 2010. Prior to joining the Tata Capital Growth Fund in April, 2015, he was with the Tata Capital Healthcare Fund where he led the investments in four companies and served on the board of 2 companies. He is experienced across private equity, transactions, and strategy consulting. 

As a strategy consultant, he has extensively advised private equity funds and companies on transactions. Sanjay has led and supervised more than 30 transactions and related engagements that have included strategic and business due diligences, deal structuring, fund raising, negotiations, and monitoring of 100 day agenda, post transaction closure.

Prior to joining Tata Capital, Sanjay ran his own advisory practice focused on healthcare transactions and consulting. He was one of the founder members of the India practice of Strategic Decisions Group (SDG), a boutique strategy consulting firm based out of Palo Alto. He started the transactions and private equity practice of SDG in India.

Sanjay has around 20 years of experience and has an MBA from Columbia Business School, Columbia University, New York city and Asian Institute of Management, Manila. He has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.



Ganesh Ramakrishnan

Principal, Tata Capital Growth Fund

Since joining Tata Capital in 2008, Ganesh has evaluated over 400 investment opportunities primarily in the technology, telecom, pharma, education, agri-business and consumer sectors.

Ganesh's experience is across private equity, strategy consulting and business development in India and US. He was formerly a Manager with the Strategy Consulting group of Deloitte. At Deloitte, he worked primarily in the areas of growth strategy and go-to-market strategy for technology, media and telecom (TMT) firms. He also assisted leading private equity firms in business due diligence assignments. Prior to Deloitte, Ganesh was with Cognizant Technology Solutions where he focused on business development. He was actively involved in formulating a diversification strategy and an entry strategy into Europe for Cognizant. Ganesh started his career as an Analyst with Capital One and has also worked as a Consultant with IBM.

Ganesh holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and a Masters in Engineering from Auburn University, USA.



Madhushan Rajagopalan

Vice President, Tata Capital Growth Fund

Since joining Tata Capital in 2008, Madhusudan has worked on and evaluated several transactions in the financial services, healthcare delivery, automotive and manufacturing sectors.

Madhu's experience is across private equity and investment banking in India. He was formerly an Investment Analyst with Aureos India Advisers, a leading SME Fund with ~ US$ 100 million corpus. At Aureos, he was part of the investment team for a leading OTC pharmaceuticals player. Prior to Aureos, he was with the investment banking division of Ernst and Young, where he was part of the Advisory team for transactions in the healthcare and logistics space. AT E&Y, he was part of the advisory team for private equity syndication for a leading courier and cargo company and a leading cardiac hospital.

Madhu holds a Ph.D (FPM) from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and is a Chartered Accountant and holds a CFA certification.



Vishal Desai

Vice President, Tata Capital Growth Fund

Since joining the Growth Fund Team in December 2012, Vishal has evaluated investment opportunities in the financial services, auto-components, manufacturing, dairy and consumer space.

Vishal has worked in private equity, corporate finance and debt capital markets in India. Prior to joining the Growth Fund team, Vishal was with the Corporate Finance team of Tata Capital Financial Services where he was responsible for the credit appraisal and underwriting of structured lending proposals for large corporate clients in western India. He was involved in the creation and monitoring of assets in excess of US$ 500 million. Prior to that, he was with the Tata Capital Innovations Fund where he worked on early stage investment opportunities in the renewable energy and technology space. Vishal has also spent some time with the Investment Banking team of Tata Capital. Some of the transactions he worked on include US$ 85 million subordinated debt placement for a leading NBFC and a US$ 30 million subordinated debt placement for the financing arm of a leading CV manufacturer.

Vishal holds an MBA in Finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and a BE in Electronics and Telecommunications from Mumbai University.
