Tata Capital Witnesses an Uptake in Personal Loans

Clocked a 68% increase in the number of loan disbursals


Mumbai, Tuesday 27th September, 2016: Tata Capital, the financial services arm of the Tata Group has seen a surge in demand for retail loans, especially Personal Loans during the current financial year. The Tata Capital Personal Loan team has noted a 68% jump in the number of Personal Loans disbursed between April & July - from around Rs. 130 Cr last financial year to over Rs. 220 Cr this financial year.


At a time when corporate lending has seen a slowdown, retail products such as Personal loans has witnessed a steady increase. To corroborate this, a report released by the Reserve Bank of India shows that unsecured personal loans disbursed by banks has grown by 31.7% in 2015-16, nearly double the pace when compared with the previous year, which stood at 16.2%.


Speaking on this change, Mr. Govind Sankaranarayanan, COO - Retail Business & Housing Finance said, "The Personal Loan space is a key focus area in the retail segment for the company due to its versatility. Although it is unsecured in nature, stringent loan disbursement norms coupled with greater levels of credit information have helped contain delinquencies so far the delinquency rate and consequently, have helped banks and NBFCs gauge the borrower's repayment capacity and choose the right applicants for loan disbursals."


According to the RBI report, Personal Loans have seen a surprisingly low number of delinquency cases - which stood at 0.79% in the first quarter.
