How insidious is the Omicron variant?

The overall risk related to this new variant remains very high, and it is hard to predict exactly when will this pandemic endThe World Health Organisation (WHO) states that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is a variant of concern.

This report is based on the evidence that it has several mutations that may impact how it behaves. As per their research, Omicron is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant, with a doubling time of 2-3 days. 

When will Omicron end?

According to infectious diseases specialist Dr Om Srivastava, this wave is expected to stabilise and decline by March 2022. 

Another popular theory is the pandemic could translate into an endemic viral infection in 2022 and see localised and short peaks in small pockets of Delhi, Kerala and Chhattisgarh. Despite these predictions, you must always practice safety measures and caution.
