List of Cars With BS-6 Engine in India – May 2020

Once the nationwide lockdowns lift, the automotive industry is all set to undergo a significant change. The Bharat Stage Emission Standards, introduced by the Government back in 2000 to regulate the emissions released by motor vehicle engines, are now becoming stricter.

In light of the rising pollution levels of the country, the Government has mandated the shift from Bharat Stage 4 to Bharat Stage 6 from the 1st April 2020. Let us find out what this is about and how automakers have prepared themselves for the change.

BS4 vs BS6

So, what is Bharat Stage 4 and what is Bharat Stage 6? Each of the two norms implies the standard for the emissions allowed to be released into the environment via vehicle engine exhaust by the Indian Government; the higher the standard number, the more rigid the permissible levels of pollutants. Meaning, the BS6 norms will be stricter than BS4. No automaker will be producing BS4-compliant vehicles any longer. However, people will be allowed to drive BS4-compatible cars that they already own.

BS6-compliant cars to be launched in May 2020

Several automakers have already shifted their focus from manufacturing BS4 to BS6-compliant vehicles, with the following expected to launch in May 2020 –

1. Tata Tiago

Price – Rs. 4.60 – Rs. 6.60 lakhs

The reputed brand’s entry-level hatchback comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces a power of 84bhp and is compliant with Bharat Stage 6 emission norms.

2. Ford Figo

Price – Rs. 5.39 – Rs. 7.85 lakhs

This sleek hatchback manufactured by the American-based automaker is best known for its exceptional performance on rough terrains. The car's 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine are updated to make it BS6-compliant. Besides this, the Figo has undergone no other changes.
