Difference between OLED and LED Display Screen

Difference between OLED and LED Display Screen

When we compare mobiles, we often note that the best phones definitely have an excellent display. A phone's display is one of the distinctive features that set it apart from others in the competition. Therefore, one of the most frequent smartphone tips is to go for a phone with a good display panel. But do you really understand the difference between the various types of display? Let us look at two of the most popular ones, OLED and LED display.

Light Emitting Diode and Organic Light Emitting Diode work on the same principles, but there are certain differences. Here are some of them:

In OLED, each pixel emits its own illumination while in LED the pixels are illuminated by an LED backlight. Thus, this makes LED much similar to LCD. The need for backlighting makes LED screens larger in terms of thickness, although not as much as LCDs. OLEDs are much slimmer because of the absence of backlighting. The brightness of the backlighting can make the color black get blurred on the screen, in LEDs. The black color is much more vibrant on an OLED screen.

In OLED screens, the viewers get a wider viewing angle; but in an LED screen, the colors may not be very prominent when watched from an edge. Compared to OLEDs, LEDs have inferior picture quality. This is because OLED is able to offer lighter and thinner display than LED. An OLED screen is more advanced than LED in terms of energy usage. LED display requires to light up the entire screen, since it uses backlit technology. On the other hand, an OLED screen lights up only those portions of the screen that needs to be lit up. Thus, OLEDs are much more energy efficient.

OLEDs are the newer technology in the market, and it is more expensive than LEDs. So, to get a mobile or other display device with OLED technology, you will have to shell out some extra bucks. However, the price is not a cause of concern if you arrange for the right consumer durable loan.

Mobile phones, phablets, tablets, televisions are all visual mediums and display is of great importance in these devices.
