Sony has expanded its range of smartphones with the launch of Xperia 8 in its home market recently. The device is one of the company’s first mid-range smartphones to include features like IP65/68 water, dust protection and the like. The phone sports a taller display with dual primary cameras at the rear. Read on to know about its price and other specifications.

Design and colour

Design-wise, Sony Xperia 8 looks modern, with thin bezels around the screen. The display is unique with the screen stretching nearly till the bottom of the phone. The new Xperia 8 measures 158 X 69 X 8.1mm that fits perfectly in your hand. It uses Corning Gorilla Glass generation six for toughness and durability, while a sleek metallic finish looks more fashionable. You will also find a fingerprint scanner that allows you to quickly unlock your phone with just a touch. The device is launched in multiple colour options, including grey, black, orange, and blue.

Display

Sony Xperia 8 features a 6-inch full-HD+ resolution screen with an aspect ratio of 21:9. This ratio offers you a more useful screen area and is perfect to run two apps simultaneously for more immersive smartphone experience. Unlike most current flagship smartphones, Xperia 8 features LCD panel which allows you to watch films and record videos with ease.

Performance

Under the hood, Sony Xperia 8 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. In the storage department, Xperia 8 offers 64 GB of storage to hold more songs, videos, photos and install more applications. The phone supports memory expansion up to 512 GB via a microSD card.

Battery and connectivity

Sony Xperia 8 is powered by a decent battery capacity of 2760 mAh and uses USB Type-C port for charging and data transfers. The 18W fast charger refills depleted battery in a short time. It is loaded with advanced charging technologies to keep the battery last longer and prevent overheating. The adaptive charging technology monitors your phone to ensure the battery is not overworked. The phone has a bunch of connectivity options including a 3.5mm audio jack with LDAC for high resolution audio and 4G with VoLTE support.

Camera

As far as the cameras are concerned, Sony Xperia 8 packs dual cameras on the back and a front-facing camera. It sports a 12-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a second 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture. There is an LED flash just below the camera array which allows you to take photos in low light conditions. With the dual cameras, you can take stunning photos in any situation and get creative with the artistic Bokeh effect. The 8 megapixels front camera along with the latest portrait mode helps you click selfies with beautiful backgrounds.

Price

For the base variant with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, Sony Xperia 8 is expected to be priced at Rs 35,890 in India. The phone is scheduled to be launched on December 26, 2019.
