Unity in Diversity at Tata Capital

Our people come from all over the country and the world and represent different nationalities, educational backgrounds and life experiences. We welcome their unique perspectives, their energy and ideas and their willingness to learn. Recognizing and honoring this diversity and individual differences, we aim to cultivate a strong sense of community and dedication to the Company. "Us versus them" thinking has no place in our Company. We aspire to achieve unity of vision about the future of our Company and build trust and healthy relationships among team members, where people treat each other with mutual respect and dignity.

We believe that the best way to do this is to encourage participation at all levels of our business, creating an environment where diversity is embraced and employees are promoted based on merit. We encourage an environment of inclusion where employees see their differences as an asset and strength.

The 10 week internship I spent with the Private Equity Group of Tata Capital was an extraordinary and doubtlessly great experience.

A major aspect that contributed to this experience was the fact that I became part of the team from my day one. I got involved in various projects and always had the opportunity to accept responsibilities for my own assignments. I worked on tasks that covered the fundraising process, the establishment of strategic partnerships as well as the evaluation of specific investment opportunities. These projects spanned almost the entire range of Private Equity in India enabling me not only to gain insights in various aspects on the field but also enjoy a steep learning curve. In addition to the pure private equity experience, my stint with Tata Capital gave me – as a student who has spent his entire life in Europe – the great opportunity to better understand India, its economy and learn about the Indian perception of issues of global concern.

As impressive and beneficial the work by itself was, one of the internship’s greatest experiences was doubtlessly the interaction and the work with the team of Tata Capital. When I was still in Switzerland, this started with great organizational support making my travels, accommodation and all other matters as trouble-free as they could possibly be. Working with my energetic and bright colleagues in the Private Equity team was further one of the things that impressed me most. Teamwork and an open work culture are in this regard not just slogans that are solely promoted by the Company - they are actively lived during the workday and beyond, providing an inspiring and beneficial working atmosphere.

I have learnt immensely from my time in Mumbai and I returned from it enriched and with broadened horizons. I am extremely grateful to all the people who made my stay the memorable and exciting one it was and would like to express my sincere gratitude for offering me this unique opportunity.

I joined Tata Capital relatively recently and I feel I have already gained an invaluable set of experiences. My involvement at Tata Capital (TCL) are in the areas of investment banking and capital markets. One area of my intended focus while in TCL is to assist India and Japan to get closer to one another and hopefully allow businesses in both countries to benefit from the stronger ties.

I feel that Tata Capital is a perfect agent to act as catalyst of stronger India-Japan partnership. This is not only because of Tata’s respected name internationally and in India. TCL is a young organization both by fact and in spirit and appears to me as having the human resources to lead and reinforce trends.

It has been a pleasant to find myself surrounded by colleagues with passion and commitment to the business. I hope to contribute and just as much to learn from this dynamic organization.
